I grew up in a very small town north of Boston, MA. I grew up loving to skate on the frozen ponds in the winter and running all year round to stay fit.
My family grew up eating what I thought were healthy, balanced meals. Burgers, pizza, ice cream, etc. were always part of our balanced diet. I always believed, if I exercised, I could eat anything.
Boy was I wrong...
It wasn’t until much later (late 20s/early 30s) that I realized this wasn’t the case. I developed terrible migraines as a teenager that lasted for days at a time. In adulthood, I had tons of brain fog and felt tired ALL THE TIME.
Not even coffee was helping. In fact, I ended up cutting coffee way back.
During this time, I became great at long distance running & eventually, completed 10 marathons in all. Life was going so well...but pounding the pavement every day led to a MAJOR hip injury.
During this process of dealing with migraines and intense hip pain, I started researching many holistic ways to feel better.
I tried every diet in the book. I started a “yo-yo” cycle of trying things that never seemed to make me feel better. I also experimented with cortisone shots to numb the pain. But the damage was already done.
Through extensive surgeries, injections, and doctor's appointments, I was diagnosed with HIP DYSPLASIA (the kind that some dogs get). I ultimately received a total hip replacement, which stopped my running goals and my #1 stress reliever.
I decided to further educate & seek out ways for healthy prevention, so that others didn't have to go through what I went through.
I have since begun a plant-based lifestyle that works really well for my individual needs.
I am still a teacher AND now a Board Certified Health Coach. My mission is to educate others through healthy food & wellness practices, so that they can thrive and live long, happy lives on their own terms.
